Bastrop, Tx–A former law enforcement agent for the Texas Alcohol
Beverage Commission was ordered on May 25 to stand trial in Bastrop on
charges of official oppression and sexual assault of a child younger
than age 17. The state grand jury for Bastrop County returned two
indictments against former TABC agend Joe Chavez this week.
Chavez was released from the Bastrop County Jail on $225,000 bail

Bastrop police chief steps down

Bastrop, Tx–David Board, city police chief since 2002, tendered
his resignation from city employment and as chief of the department on
Monday.
Board, 46, had been a Bastrop policeman since 1986. He will remain on
leave without official duties until Nov. 1 when he will qualify for
city retirement benefits, said an announcement today from Bastrop City
Manager Mike Talbot. The city manager said Board’s resignation has been
accepted and is irrevocable.

BASTROP COUNTY SETTLES WHISTLE-BLOWER LAWSUIT

Bastrop County, TX: (May-16-08) Charlie Littleton, a former Bastrop County jail administrator, filed a whistleblower lawsuit against the county in 2007, stating that several county employees improperly used county equipment and funds, as well as inmate labor to build barbecue pits for profit and do other work on private property. Lawsuit filed against county by Johnson
A civil lawsuit has been filed by former
Bastrop County Sheriffs Officer Miguel Johnson against the County,
alleging discrimination based on national origin, according to his
attorney, Shane Boasberg. Johnson
was terminated from his job as deputy March 28, 2008, after being hired
in October of 2005. He has alleged that then Sheriff Rosanna Abreo
hired and/or promoted eight or nine other Caucasian males outside of

Hernandez, Goertz sentenced on official corruption charges
The careers of two former Bastrop County elected officials have ended. Each one pled guilty to official corruption charges against them in May of 2007. Former
Sheriff Richard Hernandez, 52, who had served in that capacity since
1997, was sentenced to 90 days in jail, 10 years of probation and will
forfeit his peace officer's license. Hernandez pleaded guilty to six
felony counts, including theft by a public servant, abuse of official
